Dr. Peter v. schmidt

CEO

BIOGRAPHY

Peter led the production and launch of a game-changing powertrain and devised global strategy during his 17-year tenure at Daimler Truck, including orchestrating their majority investment in Torc in 2019. His focus areas have included autonomous technology, electrification, connectivity, digital transformation, global product and platform management, medium and heavy truck engine production, plant management, and the Asian market. Before joining Daimler, Dr. Schmidt was a principal and consultant at McKinsey & Company serving the automotive industry.

Andrew Culhane

Chief Commercial Officer

BIOGRAPHY

In his 17+ years at Torc, Andrew has been instrumental in guiding the strategy towards the commercialization of autonomous vehicles. He believes the fastest way to successful implementation is through collaboration and is responsible for identifying industries that share Torc’s mission of driving the future of freight. Andrew has been able to create purposeful partnerships in markets that include trucking, mobility, mining, construction, and off-road vehicles. Since 2019, Andrew had led Torc’s commercial strategy, go-to-market approach and customer engagements in the trucking industry.

Andrew earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering degrees from Virginia Tech. He is a Certified SAFe® Agilist, and a graduate of several professional development programs including the Stanford Strategic Decision and Risk Management Certificate Program and The University of Chicago Booths Chief Revenue Officer program.

C.J. King

Chief Technology Officer

BIOGRAPHY

C.J. is an industry-recognized technology leader with over 20 years of successfully delivering innovation across automotive, mobility, and cloud-based technologies. He brings deep expertise in product development, technology optimization, and large-scale system implementations.

C.J. began his automotive technology career at Toyota, where he built and launched Toyota Entune—the company’s first connected entertainment system—in both North America and Europe, establishing Toyota’s early presence in connected vehicle services.

At Ford, he led the development of the open-source SmartDeviceLink platform and launched the Ford Developer Program, enabling over 30 third-party apps to integrate into in-vehicle infotainment systems. He also played a key role in bringing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into the Sync platform. Notably, C.J. led the development of the foundational hardware and software stack that was later transitioned to Argo AI, forming the technical base of its autonomous vehicle platform.

Following his work in automotive, C.J. joined Amazon as a Senior Software Development Manager, where he led the Native Cloud Re-Architecture Engineering team, delivering scalable cloud solutions aligned with long-term business strategy. At HERE Technologies, he continued to drive global technology innovation, managing diverse engineering teams and implementing large-scale system transformations.

C.J. has a proven ability to build and lead high-performing global software development teams, fostering cross-functional collaboration in fast-paced environments. His work has consistently advanced the connected car and autonomous driving landscape, delivering technologies that bridge complex engineering with real-world mobility solutions.

FELIX HEIDE

Head of AI

BIOGRAPHY

Felix Heide is an Assistant Professor at Princeton University, Head of AI at Torc Robotics, Founder of self-driving vehicle startup Algolux (acquired by Torc Robotics), and previously worked at Nvidia. He is researching the theory and application of computational imaging and computer vision systems. Felix’s work lies at the intersection of machine learning, robotics, optimization, and computer vision. He received his Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia.

Felix obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Siegen and was a postdoc at Stanford University. His doctoral dissertation won the Alain Fournier Dissertation Award and the SIGGRAPH outstanding doctoral dissertation award. He won the NSF CAREER Award 2021 and the Sony Young Faculty Award 2021. He won the Nvidia Graduate Fellowship Award in 2015; he was named a Packard Fellow in 2022 and a Sloan Research Fellow in 2023. Felix was named SIGGRAPH New Significant Researcher in 2023.

Richard Kannan

Chief Financial Officer

BIOGRAPHY

Richard has extensive experience in financial leadership, creating high performing teams, post-acquisition integration and driving significant change initiatives. Before Torc, Richard worked as CFO for various high-growth and impact companies developing profitable business strategies through forward focused thinking supported by data driven analytics. He worked for 26 years for GE and a GE spin-off working in primarily in finance with cross functional roles in rating agency relations, risk management and call center operations.

STEVE KENNER

Chief Safety Officer

BIOGRAPHY

Steve brings four decades of experience in engineering and automotive safety for companies like Aurora, Kodiak, General Motors, and Uber to Torc as the company drives toward the commercialization of autonomous trucks.  Steve leads a team of internal safety experts, ensuring the cross-functional prioritization of safety in every facet of the organization – from development and testing to deployment.  Steve has deep connections in DC and governments at local levels given his tenure and experience in the space, which puts him in a great position to represent Torc to federal, state, and local agencies.

Steve holds an MBA from Stanford University and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Kettering University. 

SHEILA SCANLON

Chief Product Officer

BIOGRAPHY

Sheila Scanlon is a seasoned product executive with over 20 years of experience leading strategy, development, and execution across the automotive and autonomous driving sectors. She has held key leadership roles at Forterra, Aptiv (now Motional), and HERE Technologies, where she consistently built high-performing teams and delivered innovative, market-aligned solutions.

At Forterra, Sheila served as Vice President of Product and Program Management, driving product strategy for complex, off-road autonomous applications. During her time at Aptiv, she held dual roles in product management and business development, launching early autonomous ride-sharing pilots in Boston and Singapore and forging strategic partnerships across global markets. At HERE Technologies, she led a global product organization with a focus on embedded navigation, ADAS, and high-definition mapping for automated driving.

Sheila is known for cultivating customer-centric cultures and aligning cross-functional teams around a clear product vision.

summer craze fowler

Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) 

BIOGRAPHY

Summer Craze Fowler is Torc’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Summer brings more than two decades of experience developing and executing successful technical strategies that align with business goals and objectives. She develops strategic security and risk management programs, implements security policies and procedures, manages security technologies and oversees security-awareness training.

Summer teaches cybersecurity governance and risk metrics at Carnegie Mellon University. She serves on both non-profit and for-profit Boards and chairs several committees. Summer is a co-host on the Business Security Weekly podcast and is often requested as a speaker at national and international conferences. She has both a MS and BS from the University of Pittsburgh’s school of Computer and Information Science.

& Chief Legal Officer

BIOGRAPHY

Greg heads up transformation at Torc, which consists of Legal & Compliance, IT & Cybersecurity, Enterprise Risk, Human Resources, Internal Communications, Facilities, Quality, Program Management and Change Management. Together, the Transformation Team is leading a company-wide culture transformation and preparing to scale by maturing foundational processes and systems and equipping leaders to grow high performance teams.

Chief People Officer

BIOGRAPHY

As Chief People Officer, Jamie leads Torc’s Talent Strategy, providing the benefits and mechanisms that demonstrate care for employee wellbeing, employee engagement, motivation, and the right talent for the long haul. She serves as a senior advisor and confidant to Torc’s leadership team on human capital matters and oversees the talent People team that focuses on all elements of candidate and employee experience from pre-hire to retire.

Chief of Staff to the CEO

BIOGRAPHY

Kayla serves as Chief of Staff to the CEO for Torc. In this role, she connects people, information, and context across the organization to coordinate and provide support for the CEO, Board of Directors, executive team, and shareholder relations.  She also leads the administration team and facilitates special projects in support of corporate governance and strategic initiatives.
