Humans observe and track other cars on the road to make smart decisions about lane changes and passing. Our self-driving car is “trained” to make decisions in a similar way. Here, the self-driving car has merged onto the road in the right lane and needs to change lanes to enter a turning lane at the next light. It detects the car in the adjacent lane, accelerates to pass it, and finds a safe spot to pass.
