When people and objects come close to the edge of a lane, a self-driving car has to distinguish if it is safe to continue on the road, or if it should shift over, re-route, or stop. Stopping at the wrong time could hold up traffic or affect travel. In this video taken captured from a roof-mounted camera, the Torc self-driving car encounters cones bordering the right side of a lane at an intersection.
The Torc car prepares to turn green at the light, but adjusts its speed for a car that unexpectedly crosses its path from the adjacent non-turning lane. It completes the turn and successfully navigates a lane bordered by cones and work vehicles. It continues down the road, adjusting its speed for a congested intersection ahead.
