BLACKSBURG, VA – Torc Robotics and Bordrin have partnered to develop Level 4 self-driving electric vehicles for mobility services in smart cities.

The partnership will incorporate Torc’s Asimov SAE Level 4 self-driving vehicle capabilities with Bordrin’s advanced and long-range electric vehicles. This partnership targets one of the world’s largest economies where cities are being built for self-driving vehicles.

Bordrin is making great progress in developing three dedicated platforms for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) that will propel it to a leadership position in EV platform technologies, including autonomous driving, according to CTO and President North America Jerry Lavine. Their first vehicle will launch soon with Level 2+ ADAS functions. Future vehicle models achieve higher ADAS functionality and ultimately achieve ADAS Level 4.

All these technologies will promote the establishment of smart cities and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in China. The cooperation with Torc Robotics will undoubtedly accelerate the progress of Bordrin in these areas, Lavine said.

“We believe one of the fastest paths to commercialization is through partnerships with vehicle manufacturers. This partnership will help fulfill the natural integration of autonomous technology with electric vehicles,” said Torc CEO Michael Fleming. “We look forward to working with Bordrin to further our mission of saving lives through self-driving technology.”

Bordrin was founded in 2016 to develop a smarter, technologically innovative car. The company aims to provide customers with safe, reliable, long-range, and high-performing electric vehicles. Their first vehicle and platform capabilities will be unveiled at the Shanghai International auto show in April.

”Bordrin is committed to delivering a smart EV brand based on technology innovation with real world benefits for our customer. Partnering with Torc enables us to accelerate our efforts in autonomy and we look forward to demonstrating our joint capabilities in real world scenarios,” Lavine said.

Torc has been developing self-driving vehicle technology since 2005. The company has implemented its technology on Lexus RX vehicles and Chrysler Pacifica hybrids, in addition to other platforms. The Lexus vehicles successfully logged robotic testing in more than 20 states while operating on both public roads and closed courses with zero accidents. Torc’s autonomous vehicle technology has successfully navigated heavy urban traffic, aggressive tailgating, heavy rains, snow and highway detours.

About Torc Robotics

Torc Robotics, headquartered in Blacksburg, Virginia, offers a complete autonomous software solution for mobility applications like self-driving cars and transit by working with partners in automotive, transit and technology. Torc also provides self-driving technology in safety-critical environments like defense, mining, and agriculture. Founded in 2005, Torc has integrated its self-driving solutions on ground vehicles ranging from SUVs to 300-ton mining trucks.

Torc’s self-driving cars successfully logged robotic testing in more than 20 states while operating on both public roads and closed courses with zero accidents. The testing included a coast-to-coast trip across the United States and extensive driving in densely-paced streets such as those located in Las Vegas, Nevada. Torc recently announced a new demo platform with commercially viable components implemented on a Chrysler Pacifica.
